“I was trying to update the kitchen in the 1960s ranch home to look fresh and current while staying humble to the house’s original character. So, a little traditional (partial overlay cabinets with subtle lines and traditional hardware) and a little modern (sleek sink and a marble looking quartz). Its design is not overstated and should maintain its classic look even as styles come and go.”

The Design Story
For this kitchen, our Designer, Caty, was the customer! Caty recently moved into a 1960s-style ranch house that was in need of some TLC. The kitchen in her new home was last renovated in 1994, and she was ready to make some design changes. Functionally, the appliances in the home were starting to break one by one, which was one of the main catalysts to get her started on renovating the rest of the space.
The kitchen in her home was closed off from the living room, which made it difficult to keep an eye on her three-year-old son, Rush. Caty and her family spend a lot of time in their kitchen, and it was too tight for more than two people to be in the space at once. Caty’s vision was to combine the living room and kitchen to create a more functional workspace, and to update the appearance, of course!
